Mady-Madelyn-Tangled Birthday!

Lovely Mady, Madelyn, celebrated her 6th birthday this past April 18th.  Mady is my niece,  Ilene’s daughter, and Ilene is Lily's daughter, my sister in law.

As you know, I was also baking for Alyssa's birthday; crazy week...crazy week indeed! But, we were all collectively UBER excited about all of the April bashes!

Ilene planed an out of this world 'Tangled' event at a park with bounce house, clown, piƱata et al.
Mady was beside-herself-excited about her party!!!

The 'Tangled' cake included a top layer of vanilla and a bottom layer of  Mady’s favorite strawberry.

We made mini cupcakes; a whopping 104 yummies in tangled  up colors such are purple-chocolate, yellow- vanilla and pink strawberry. Neapolitan is a always a big hit in tangled up affairs.

Hope you had a wonderful Tangled up Birthday, Mady!

Alyssa's Shoes and Bags B'day!

My granddaughter Alyssa turned the page on being an 8 year old and stepped into her 9th year on April 21st.  We hopped into the car from Miami and headed for the big 'to-do' in Ocala, where she lives with her mom.

Needless to say, it was a frenzied affair. We drove north for 4 hours with all my supplies early Friday in order to prepare Alyssa’s cake. I naturally always leave something behind, but I worked it out.  The cake was completed by 2:30 AM.

The theme: Alyssa requested Shoes and Purses...

My response, "Huh?..  and what do I do? My girl is not even a tween. Heavy sigh! So... I did the grandmotherly thing and created gilry flats out of sugar and a simple purse confectioned out of cake.

I was told the party included a group of ten at the local Ocala  roller rink.   So I said to Alyssa, 'I’ll make you a little cake that looks like a purse.' We sat down in front of our home computer and we designed the cake of all cakes! Voila!  We now had a 3 tier cake in the rising.

In my mind I could hear mom, Monica, saying, "how exaggerated, Nancy!”
My response, "Come on, Monica... she is my granddaughter!" I hear this every year and aren’t I allowed?

So to please both Mom and Alyssa, I made the bottom layer a 'dummy' cake; dummy as in Styrofoam. The middle layer is Alyssa’s favorite - chocolate.  The purse was all vanilla with a pinch of Coco rum.

I threw in some miniature high heels from little cupcakes and boxed them in clear boxes as favors; I confess, I went crazy with purses and heel cookies.  I found cardboard purses at QualityWholesale and stuffed them with flavored lip glosses as goodie bag items. True that, I had more fun getting everything together than when I used to coordinate my own children's birthday partys; Ah, to be a  grandmother. Sweet!

Oops. Lastly, I dressed up fancy-like to the Roller Rink in Ocala, nothing like Miami, life is simpler in there. The good news; everyone there approached us to pay homage to Alyssa’s cake, cookies and mini cupcake shoes. The good folks came by to  take pictures. How funny! A good time was had by all and my Alyssa was happy.  It's a good life!

Ana’s Easter Birthday

March 1, 2013

Dear Ana,

What a perfect moment to say the words that are better shared, thank you for being such a wonderful niece. As you turned 29 on the beautiful day of the Ides of March, I am reminded today that your timing into this world was perfect and that we are all exponentially blessed as a family.

This is your family..Don't we make you proud?

All kidding aside, we love you for many reasons, but you are especially witty, full of fun, creative and have a Queen size HEART; and,on and on and on...familial accolades can be embarrassing, therefore I will behave. The laud stops here...for now.

In planning your day,all we knew was that your 29th had to be an extra special celebration. The plot was designed and we built a party with your name on the marquis.

With that said, Tio Juan made the most savory, mouth watering Paella with all of the fixings, Momma Mary arranged the brightest and most aromatic spring flowers she could find and I of course, the sweets for my sweet. Party central was humming and spot on.

So you don't forget the feel of these moments, I am going to recap briefly your day and how I felt as part of the prep team; one for the book of memories.

From the starting gate, I was inspired by the scent of renewal and Easter goodness so, voila...an Egg Cake was my muse. This ditty was made with you in mind, topped with vanilla and colored layers to remind you of the Easter egg hunts of your childhood. I remember many.

The bottom layer is and may always be your favorite, Red Velvet.   The mini cupcakes were more about Mom’s favorite treat, pineapple and coconut; she deserves some kudos as she brought you into the world. I think you will agree.

You just know we could not leave the Easter cake pops on the bench. I am especially proud of these babies because of the large dose of adorable-factor: the little rabbit tails in red velvet, chicks in vanilla, purple eggs and flowers in chocolate.

I guess that wasn't enough, so I made sherbert coated vanilla cake pops in the shape of Easter eggs and mini cakes in raspberry, key lime, and orange.

All of this preparation was inspired by your beautiful soul.  It was a great time for all of us and we wholeheartedly wish you all the finely favored goodness that life can offer.

My wish for you on that day and every day is a beautiful day for a beautiful Niece.

With love,

Tia Nancy

Annabelle's Bridal Shower

Sandy is Annabelle’s mom and has been charged with celebrating her bridal shower.  The commission consisted of a cake, cupcakes and cookies; aesthetics involved flowers in blue - a favorite.

The cookies causally matched the dress on her chosen invitation.  We played with colors and decided on  a royal blue to enhance the look. At a glance, I noticed on the bottom of dress of the Invitation it read 'Love', so I did my best to add that detail on the cookies.

All the cake and cupcakes were in pineapple with cream cheese butter cream. I surprise gifted them 24 mini 'flan' cupcakes” as my heartfelt thank you for such a generous order.
