The finest for Migdy; Lorena's basket.

Migdy Moya purchased this beautiful box from 'Michaels' and gathered up a beautiful bottle of expensive Champagne and asked that I fill it with some of my Nancily goodies to give to a special client. The limit was that of $ 50.00... and these are some of the things I whipped up!

We decided to go with the box rather than a basket; Midgy loved the box idea better! In all, the gift included cake pops, mini cakes (two), pretzel sticks, monogram cookies and butterfly cookies. We certainly hope Lorena Likes. Fingers crossed!

Ethans Big Day @ the Arky Arky!

The prep (click on prep) was over and the day arrived.  It was raining solid buskets of water when we arrived at  Tropical Park to set up.  Ironic, yes? Noah must have had his hand in this one in order to promote the theme - Noah’s Ark.   Thank goodness my cousin Mary brought her BIG Diesel Truck or we would have never made it up the hill to the Pavilion.   We worked, under cover, setting the display table and as we placed the last pop down the raining ended just like in the story.

Officially, this was the first baby shower that I was charged with the trimmings to the entire affair from soup to nuts, so it meant business.   I am rather pleased with myself since I believe I polpulated the ark to Noah's satisfaction. There were animal cookies, artsy sugar cookies with designs by Tamika Gardner from ThePoshbabyshower , who by the way is the author of '201 Organic Baby Purees'. This is worth a look since it is all about the babies!

Oh yes ... and there were cake pops, chocolate covered pretzel sticks and even pearl bubble gum! As a side bar,  I decided to go with the cream cheese buttercream icing instead of fondant since they ordered Carrot Cake; tastes so much better.  And, I tried to make the buttercream look like water; nothing more decadenly sweet than swimming in buttercream!

In any event, I loved creating  this cake! The good news is that Marlen, Samantha and company loved it! A good time was had by all...in rain and in shine.

The Arky Arky Song - Just for Ethan!

Ayanna's 5th - ice cream bar, anyone?

In conjunction with MochaShicEvents ,

Mom and Melissa designed Ayanna's birthday cake - an Ice Cream Bar. I learn something new every day! No princess stuff or frilly lillies, just a simple ice cream bar cake.

Sounds easy, right? NOT!  I submit,  it was thee challenges of all challenges. The image they sent   was that of a small cake that fits on a paper towel; the tricky part was that this baby needed to feed 30. In all, it became a very large cake.

How does 14 inches by 14 inches and 4 inches deep grab you?  It  was an all day venture, but when I finished I was pleased. It was very Ayanna and that was the goal!
Happy Birthday, Ayanna!

Nautica with icing!

Ships Ahoy! Ralph, my hard working and good hearted friend, devised a Birthday Cake surprise for his Boss who absolutely loves boats!
 Ta-ta-Taaa!
Final answer: here is the vacillating vessel request and cupcakes!

The following day I received a call from Ralph saying he was about to cry! Gulp,  my heart stopped and so did my breathing.
I immediately thought he did not like the boat cake!
I tend to go overboard at times, (no pun intended).

He and i both took a breath and then he said,
"I love it -  love it love it!
O.M.G., Relief!
Wuzza! I do declare, one of these days I am going to literally faint.

Full Speed Ahead!

Waiting to exhale bake-a-thon!

Hello Everyone,
I have appeared silent, but I havent been exactly quiet - more like frenzied!  In fact, I’ve been hectic with a capital Hectic! Lord knows I’m not complaining, this passion for flour, water, sugar and design sometimes excludes that much necessary moment to take a breath!

There are new cookies in the neighborhood.  Friends and followers typically send me images of what they  would like to see in baked form. No doubt, I am all about it.  Challenge, is my middle name and I can reproduce the images with exactitude - thanks to some high tech baking devices. Still, I give it the Nancy flare.  What is the point of it all, if I merely create a knock off!
Jamais! Not my style.

We began the week with Drew’s 6th Birthday. Last year, many blog entries ago, we captured his 5th birthday bash.  Drew's Mom's Blog: My baby is six!

'Pirates' last year and this year 'Bowling.'  Drew is growing up fast!

I have never had such a marked adventure in baking as I did with this 8 inch bowling ball. Its was a baking “Night of Horror.”  I made this baby three times! The third time was a charm.  Completed at 11:00 p.m.  The cake was perfect, however, I was not.

Final Score: Bowling ball cake wins and Nancy loses at the 2:00 a.m. bell.  Zzzzzzz!
Pick up was scheduled for  8:30 a.m. STRIKE!

Note to self: I have created many a basketball, football, soccer and baseball pops and smashes  and everything in between, but few bowling balls. The order was bascially bowling cookies, and cake pops, but  I threw in the smash cake. I like to toss it in for Children’s birthdays.  This part of the bash is on me! In this case, my gift was the nightmare of a bowling cake.

Also this week was a 'Moses turned 13 kind of week! He loves B-ball (basketball) and his team colors are royal blue and white. I whipped up these cookies for the toppers! Two for two, y'all!

It just wasn't over ! Next, I have a very good customer named Tiffany that called me at the last minute for her fiance’s  3oth bday. Thank goodness, only cake pops and mini cupcakes. I made it!

Oh No! My niece Ana came by Thursday afternoon with a request! Tia, I need a  'Whatever'cake for my two closest  friends' birthday:  Lynn and Jackie.  In addition, her  childhood friend was getting married and they were going to sing Happy Birthday as they prepared for Arlenne’s wedding. Huh?!

Only My Niece would think of something like this. She is forever  thinking of others. I’m telling you, If you have Ana, my niece as a friend, you are set for life. Love her. How could I say No?

Oh, and she also wanted Mini Guava cupcakes, her favorite. Beyond a Double Whammy!

More to come:  Noah’s Ark baby shower for Samantha, whose little Ethan is on the way, and Ralph, my hard working and good hearted friend has a Birthday surprise for his Boss who loves boats, Nautical birthday. BusyBusy Bee I shall be. Pooped!

The Little Baker that could..I think I can...I thnk I can...

It was 9:43 p.m. Wednesday night when a barrage of Sigrid family and friends e-mails streamed into my in-box.  Luckily, I somehow tripped onto the activity around 11:00!  My heart pounded to a big reveal that involved me;  my very first emergency wedding cake.    There was an elopement in the family and I was charged with the nuptial torte.  All the relations were scrambling to get a celebration going for Saturday; two days away!  OMG!

My hubby, Juan, had informed me that we were leaving for our Ocala retreat early Friday morning. Yes, time was short! I felt the cardiac knot in my ever gulpping throat!

Talk about ANXIETY.   I nervously told her I would try, but would let her know in the morning as I needed to check on my inventory of baking supplies.

Long story short, it was go and the baking frenzy began at 7:30 a.m. -- and yes, I was done by 1:30! Wheeeew!  The pick up was slated for 1:50; finito with twenty minutes to spare.

I kept thinking of the little engine that could, “I think I can, I think I can…” just like a mantra, I repeated the same words over and over: I think I can, I think I can.  And, I did.

It was hit out of the ballpark and the mess was also out of this world:  UGH! )&$%@%^& expletives!

In all, I was on the verge of a mild mannered heart attack. Sigrid and I laughed it off. Thank God for Sigrid, with us today, after a two year battle with Leukemia ..and of course, they have the Wedding Torte and  there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for her.

 Whew, breathe, whew, breathe.
