Its-a-boy-kasai

Another goodie from Melissa, event planner of MochaShic Events.  The client wanted a Nautical Baby Shower, “Ships Ahoy, It’s a Boy”.

Nautical cookies were made to please... and will be employed as party favors on each plate setting. Voila!

The Mom requested a LifeSaver cake with cake pops and pretzel sticks - all nautical!

My gift to them for investing in such a large order was a mini sailboat cake.

I added the baby’s name for personal touch, so unique , love it!

Julio's 40th!

This bash was at Marys house.  In case you didn't know, Mary is  boss when it comes to events! The theme was a-la-Cubana.

Selena Llanes prepared a surprise fiesta or better known in Cuban circles as 'un asalto' for her Husband.  She ordered 2 cakes because there were 4 other  family members celebrating  birthdays the same week. She ordered mini cupcakes in Guava, Coconut, red velvet, flan cupcakes and Domino cookies as party favors.

My Jenny was hired as the official bartender .

Mary went all out! The decorating was over the top of any Cuban palmera!

Notice all the vintage Cuban items that were displayed: small calderos,  flower arrangements in Cuban cigar boxes, peanuts wrapped in brown cones, carne fria on a cutting board, the cake was on a Domino table, the vases holding glasses had little lights inside, Cuban posters galore and Lilia, our friend made the beautiful fabric covered Conga drum.

Voila!  The best carne fria - Ever:

It’s a typical meatloaf recipe from “Pioneer Woman” albeit no bacon or sauce.  The carne is shaped by into a meatloaf by using heavy duty foil paper in long logs about 1 ½  - 2 inch rolls.

-Close foil tightly to keep round log shape.
-Put in glass rectangle baking dish with water about an inch of water.
-Bake for 1 hour.
-Let cool cut into ½ slices.
-Place cream with piping bag and swirl tip and do like you would a cupcake.
-Slice Cantimpalo circles in half
-Twist into a little cone floret
-Put in cream, they look like cupcakes, but with meat.
-The cream is – 1 pkg. of cream cheese with ½ jar of Guava preserves, blend together, if its too soft, stick in refrigeration for a bit and then pipe .

Our 30th!

I had let my hair go silver; embracing AARP and all that.  However, while on a date night dinner the unthinkable happened. My companion of 30 years hurt my feelings by recounting our earlier years and how young I USED to look.  He added, "the silver look was old. And, why did I want to look Old"?
Naturally, I cried all the way home; since I became instantly ugly after that comment.
I didnt think twice.  I called Normita and she fixed me. I am pretty certain the fix shaved twenty years off.  Now, I have a new commitment to color every two weeks. My life partner has offered to pay -- every two weeks.

It's a win, win for all!
On the flip side: When my daughter Jenny got home she became upset. She chided that she hoped it would wash out and that I was a nuts for dying my hair. I guess I can't make everyone happy!

What can I say...just the two of us...

Maria and Paco Celebrate!

His Highness King Paco!

Maria is the family vet and good friend - a friend that kept her three tier birthday cake in the fridge for 3 weeks because it was too pretty to slice  - one year ago!  This year she got a Mini cake and down it went.

She wanted to celebrate her birthday with her dog pal 13 year old Paco.  Needless to say, this was my first “Doggie Party”.

I made Natural Dog biscuits with a little “P” a top for PACO. And, Paco had his very own giant dog cupcake. Paco's friends got their own doggie cupcakes. Yes, a doggie safe treat: peanut butter, flax, whole wheat, honey, carrots, no sugar, no and baking powder.

Maria and her friends, delighted on some  coconut cake with cream cheese butter cream infused with a bit of coconut rum. It was deeeelllicious - mini guava cupcakes added to the sweet assortment as well.

Paco loved the biscuits and he loved his cake. He was the King of this event.
